If you are fitted with braces, one of the things that our orthodontist, Dr. Richard Risinger, will use to improve your smile is a spacer. Spacers are not part of your braces. They are small rubber rings that are placed between your teeth. Their purpose is pretty simple: they create spaces between your teeth so that Dr. Risinger can place the bands, which are parts of your braces, on your teeth. This may sound uncomfortable, and your spacers may feel that way at first, but they are usually only on your teeth for a few days, and an over-the-counter pain reliever can help with any discomfort you feel.
You can keep your spacers in shape and in place by following the oral hygiene instructions our team will give you and by avoiding foods that will damage your braces. At some point during your treatment, you may have a spacer fall out or shift. If this should happen, all you need to do is contact our office and make an appointment with Dr. Risinger. In most cases, a lost spacer is just an indicator that it is time for you to have a band placed. Call Risinger Orthodontics at 860-633-8321 for more information. We will be happy to answer any questions you have about orthodontic spacers in Glastonbury, Connecticut, and help you get ready for your visit.
